Mr. Faruque Hassan EBFCI
Mr. Faruque Hassan completed his postgraduate degree in Management from the University of Dhaka. He began his professional career in 1982 and has since emerged as an iconic figure in Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) and textile industry. With decades of dedicated service, he has contributed significantly to the sustainable growth and global competitiveness of the sector, consistently demonstrating leadership, integrity, and perseverance.
Within the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), he served as an elected Director for two consecutive terms (2001–2002, 2003–2004), later as Vice President for two terms (2009–2010, 2011–2012), and as Senior Vice President from 22 September 2015 and then President of BGMEA. He has also held prominent roles in international business chambers, including President of the Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DBCCI), and leadership positions in French, German, and Swiss chambers in Bangladesh. He was recently appointed Honorary Consul General of Greece in Dhaka.
Mr. Faruque Hassan, is also Managing Director of Giant Group, a founder member of the Board of Trustees at BUFT, has now taken over as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT).
He has been a strong advocate for sustainability in the RMG sector. He serves as Co-chair of the Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PACT) initiative under IFC and BGMEA and is involved in the World Bank’s WRG 2030 program focused on water and sanitation. He also played a key role in establishing BIFT, later BUFT, to develop skilled professionals for the industry. He envisions a green, globally responsible RMG sector for Bangladesh.
